STATUTE LAWS (PROOF AND PRESERVATION) ORDINANCE, 1923

No. 19 of 1923.

An Ordinance to provide for the preservation of certaln
portions of the Statute Laws (New Revised Edition)
Ordinance, 1917.

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Statute Laws (Proof
and Preservation) Ordinance, 1923.

2, In this Ordinance,

(a) Revised Edition means the. Revised Edition of the
Laws of Hongkong prepared by Sir John Carrington, Knight,
and authorised to be used by proclamation of the Governor,
dated the 20th day of July, 1904, and made in virtue of
Ordinance No. 12 of 1900.
(b) New Revised Edition means the New Revised Edi-
tion of the Ordinances of Hongkong prepared by Chaloner
Grenville Alabaster, Esquire, and authorised to be used by
proclamation of the Governor, dated the 28th day of August,
1913, and made 1A virtue of Ordinance No. 19 of 1911.

(c) The Registrar means the Registrar of the Supreme
Court.
(d) Originals means the copies of Ordinances contained
in the collection of Ordinances of the Colony from the com-
mencement thereof, down to and including Ordinance No. 30
of 1886, and the sealed copies of all the Ordinances sub-
sequent to Ordinance No. 30 of 1886, now preserved in the
Registry of the Supreme Court.

3.-(1) The Registrar shall preserve a copy of the Revised
Edition.

(2) Any original and any Ordinance contained in the
Revised Edition may be proved by certified copies thereof,
or, by order of a judge, by the production thereof by the
Registrar. Subject, however, to objection being taken, any
original or any Ordinance contained in the Revised Edition
may be proved by the production of a copy of the Gazette or
of a copy of any collection of Ordinances, purporting to be

printed by the Government Printers, containing a copy of
such original, or of a volume of the Revised Edition, purport-
ing to be impressed on the title page thereof with the seal of
the Colony, containing such Ordinance.

(3) Any person shall be entitled to inspect any such
originals or the copy of the Revised Edition during office
hours on payment of twenty-five cents for such inspection
not exceeding three hours, and to take copies or extracts
therefrom for certification by the Registrar, on payment of
twenty-five cents per folio of seventy-five words for each
copy or extract.
