An Ordinance to Provide for the vacation of offices and the
determination of Pensions and allowances held by persons
convicted of crime.
[13th December, 1882.]
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Public Officers
(Conviction of Crime) Ordinance, 1882.
2. If any person convicted within the jurisdiction of any
of His Majesty's courts, of treason or felony for which he is
sentenced to death, or penal servitude, or any term of imprison-
alent with hard labour, or exceeding twelve months, at the time
of such conviction holds in this Colony any civil office under the
Crown or other public employment or place, or is entitled to any
pension or superannuation allowance payable by the public or
out of any public fund, such office, employment, or place shall
forthwith become vacant, and such pension or superannuation
allowance shall forthwith determine and cease to he payable.
unless such person receives a free pardon within six months
after such conviction, or before the filling up of such
office, employment, or place, if given at a later. period;

and such person shall become and (until he has suffered the
punishment to which he has been sentenced, or such other
punishment as by competent authority may be substituted for
the same, or receives a free pardon) shall continue thenceforth
incapable of holding in this Colony any civil office under the
Crown or other public employment or place.
